This work emerged from a collective melancholy and the quiet uncertainty of a fading memory. It explores the tension between human creativity and technology's relentless advance. 'US' contemplates what we preserve and lose in an era of AI, serving as a meditation on hope, resilience, and the irreplaceable value of the human spirit in a changing world.

아티스트 스테이트먼트 (Artist’s Statement)

제 작업은 거울에서 시작합니다. 거울은 우리의 외적 모습뿐만 아니라 감정의 내적 풍경까지도 비춰냅니다. 이런 의미에서, 그림은 항상 제게 거울과도 같은 역할을 해왔습니다. 생각은 얼굴로, 감정은 형태로 번역되는 화면이죠. 저는 초상화를 그리기 시작했으나, 곧 배경에 깃든 형태와 색채를 통합하게 되었습니다. 우리의 환경이 마음의 상태를 반영하는 중요한 메아리 공간이라는 아이디어를 탐구하기 위해서입니다.

이러한 탐구는 점차 이별과 연결에 대한 명상으로 발전했습니다. 다양한 문화를 넘나드는 세월을 보내면서, 저는 작별의 인사—낮게 속삭이는 것과 말없이 스치는 것, 잠시의 것과 영원한 것—를 수집하는 사람이 되었습니다. 각각의 만남은 공존의 고요한 마법을 간직하고 있죠. 제 작업은 이러한 이별을 "다시 만날 때까지 그리워할 게요"라는 온화한 약속으로 변모시키고자 합니다. 제 그림은 기억과 그리움이 교차하는 지점에 살아숨쉽니다. 유령처럼 맴도는 푸른색, 앰버색, 그리고 빨간색의 연작들은 시간의 손길이 닿지 않은 채로 관계가 지속되는 공간이 되어줍니다.

궁극적으로, 이一系列(일련의) 작업은 인간 관계의 쓸쓸하고도 달콤한 문법에 대한 한 통의 러브 레터입니다. 이별의 아픔이 사랑했던 것에 대한 감사와 어떻게 공존하는지 묵상합니다. 한 작품의 진정한 완성은 관람자가 그 안에서—관계의 해어짐이나 그 기원보다 오래 지속되는 색채에서—자신만의 이야기를 발견할 때 비로소 이루어집니다. 진정한 연결은 결코 사라지지 않기 때문입니다. 단지 형태를 바꿔 다른 곳에서 계속될 뿐이죠.My work begins with the mirror—an object that reflects not only our external appearance but also the internal landscape of our emotions. In this way, painting has always served as my mirror: a surface where I translate thoughts into faces and feelings into form. I started by painting portraits but soon began integrating shapes and colours that live in the background, exploring the idea that our environment is a vital echo chamber of our state of mind.

This exploration evolved into a meditation on connection and departure. Having spent years moving across cultures, I have become a collector of goodbyes—the whispered and the unspoken, the temporary and the forever. Each encounter carries the quiet magic of shared existence. In my work, I seek to transform these farewells into a gentle promise: “You are missed until we meet again.” My paintings live where memory and longing intersect, with a series of colours—the haunted blues, ambers, and reds—serving as places where relationships continue, untouched by time.

Ultimately, this body of work is a love letter to the bittersweet grammar of human connection. It contemplates how the ache of parting coexists with gratitude for having loved. The true completion of a piece occurs when viewers see their own stories within it—in the frayed edge of a relationship, or a colour that outlasts its origin. For no true connection ever truly dissolves; it simply changes form and continues elsewhere.
